
Julian Edwards
Director of Learning and Innovation
The KAUST School
Julian Edwards is originally from England. His career has spanned Early Years, Elementary, Secondary and Special Education, in seven countries across Africa, Europe, Asia and the Middle East. In addition to eight years in the UK national system, he has spent the last twenty-six years as a school and curriculum leader in some of the world’s foremost international schools, including The Western Academy of Beijing (WAB), NIST International School, ICS Zurich and currently The KAUST School where he is Deputy Director. Julian is continuously energised by the challenge of building great schools, driven by research and evidence, which will produce flourishing and successful humans. Holding a Masters degree in Education and an MBA, Julian exemplifies the agility required to lead education through simultaneously building effective organisations and learning communities. Julian has been a frequent contributor to developments in the International Baccalaureate Organisation, to regional workshops and research projects including the UNICEF Happy Schools Project. His personal research interests centre around innovation, leadership and well-being – areas that he believes are the key drivers for successful schools. Julian’s current role at the KAUST School, situated within the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology, includes oversight of the Office of Learning and Innovation and the Office of Saudi Advancement.
